Tongits has been a staple in Filipino households for decades — from barrio reunions to weekend barkada sessions. Now PHJoint brings it online so you can play anytime, anywhere in the Philippines, with real opponents and real cash on the table.
If you grew up Filipino, there's a good chance you've played Tongits at some point in your life — whether it was on a bambang table during a barangay fiesta, in your lola's living room on a Sunday afternoon, or with barkada after class. Tongits is deeply woven into Filipino card culture, and for good reason: it's fast, strategic, and genuinely exciting from start to finish.
The game is played by three players using a standard 52-card deck. The goal is to empty your hand of cards before your opponents do — either by forming valid melds (sets and sequences) and laying them down, or by forcing a "draw" call when the draw pile runs out. Points from unplayed cards in your opponents' hands count in your favour.
PHJoint brings this exact experience online with responsive card animations, real-time multiplayer matchmaking, and cash pots that build as each round progresses. Whether you're a lifelong Tongits shark or picking up your first hand, PHJoint has a table at the right level for you.

Already familiar with Tongits? This is a quick refresher. New player? Here's everything you need to know before sitting down at your first PHJoint table. The rules are the same as the traditional Filipino version.
| Hand Type | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Set | Three or four cards of the same rank | 7♠ 7♥ 7♦ |
| Sequence | Three or more consecutive same-suit cards | 4♣ 5♣ 6♣ |
| Tongits | Empty your hand in one complete turn | Instant win |
| Draw Call | Challenge when draw pile is empty | Lowest points wins |
Tongits is strictly a three-player game played with a standard 52-card deck. On PHJoint, the system automatically matches you with two other players from the lobby when you join a table. Cards are dealt 12 to the dealer and 12 each to the other two players, leaving a draw pile of 16.
On your turn, you draw the top card from the central pile. You then decide whether to keep it (adjusting your hand) or discard it. You can also draw from the discard pile if the top card fits a meld in your hand. Your turn ends when you discard a card face-up on the discard pile.
At any point on your turn, you can lay down valid melds (sets of three or more same-rank cards, or sequences of three or more same-suit consecutive cards) face-up on the table. Once laid, these melds reduce your hand count. You can also add cards to your own or opponents' exposed melds.
You win instantly by emptying your entire hand in a single turn — this is called "Tongits" and is an automatic win regardless of the other players' card counts. Alternatively, if the draw pile runs out, any player can call a draw — the player with the lowest total point value in their remaining hand wins that draw.
On PHJoint, each round has a fixed ante pot contributed by all three players. The winner collects the pot. In tournament mode, you accumulate wins across multiple rounds and the overall chip leader after all rounds takes the top prize. All payouts are in Philippine Peso and credited to your wallet instantly.
Tongits isn't pure luck — reading the table and managing your hand smartly is what separates consistent winners from casual players.
The discard pile tells you what cards have already been played and what your opponents might be holding or building towards. If a card you need keeps getting discarded, your opponents probably don't need it — but if nobody discards it, someone's building a set around it.
Don't wait for the perfect hand. Start forming partial melds with three cards and lay them down quickly. Reducing your hand count early gives you more flexibility and puts pressure on opponents who haven't melded yet.
Don't sit on a low-count hand hoping to get a Tongits — if the draw pile is thinning out and your hand total is already the lowest at the table, call the draw. Waiting too long risks another player melding more cards and beating you on count.
If you see an opponent has laid down a partial sequence — say, 4♥ 5♥ — avoid discarding 3♥ or 6♥ even if it's not useful to you. Giving opponents free meld completions tightens the game against you fast.
High-value cards (Aces, face cards) in your unplayed hand hurt your count if you lose a draw challenge. Prioritise melding or discarding your high-value cards early in the round, especially when you can see the draw pile getting low.
In PHJoint's Blitz Tongits, the timer pressures players into hasty decisions. The advantage goes to whoever stays composed. Pre-plan your discards while opponents are still taking their turns so you're never caught scrambling when it's your move.
Casual tables are great, but tournaments are where the real Tongits bragging rights are earned. PHJoint runs daily Tongits tournaments with fixed entry fees and prize pools that scale with the number of participants. The more players enter, the bigger the pot gets.
Tournament formats on PHJoint include single-elimination (lose once and you're out), round-robin (most wins across a set number of rounds), and the weekend special format where buy-ins accumulate across multiple daily flights leading to a Sunday grand final.
Winners are announced on the PHJoint platform and prizes are credited directly to their wallets right after the final round ends — no waiting, no manual claiming process needed.

"I play Tongits every night on PHJoint after dinner — it's become my chill routine. The Blitz Mode is super fun, keeps you sharp. I joined the weekend tournament last Saturday and finished 3rd — walked away with ₱22,000. Hindi expected pero sulit talaga ang ₱250 entry fee!"
"My barkada and I used to play Tongits every payday. Now we just create a private room on PHJoint and play online — even the guys from Cebu and Davao can join. It's exactly like playing in person but now we can't flip the table when someone wins a Tongits! Haha. Great platform overall."
